What will define Web 3.0?

By

Web 2.0 is so yesterday. So what will define web 3.0? Well Web 2.0 really meant a few different things. It was about social networks and interactions. It was also a term attributed to richer applications that made heavy use of AJAX.

Many people have begun associating web 3.0 with the term semantic web. The Semantic Web is all about making the information available on the web more readable to machines which in turn can lead to more interesting and smarter applications. However, I'm not sure that is what will really define web 3.0 in and of itself. I think location based applications will be a big part of web 3.0. I also believe personalized web applications will be very key.  As the amount of information on the web grows getting the information that is important to YOU becomes more and more important.

The first wave of web 3.0 sites will likely suffer from being too complicated for the masses.  The semantic web itself is unlikely to define web 3.0 as it is more about technology than solving a consuer need.  It's why most people associate social networks with Web 2.0 - not Ajax.

So now I ask you, what do you think will define web 3.0?
